Synopsis

The Dark Kings have fought for centuries to preserve their dragon magic. But one of the most powerful warriors of his kind will be put to the ultimate test. Is he strong enough to resist his greatest temptations? Or will he be forced to surrender—body and soul?

Denae Lacroix is a beautiful MI5 agent on a deadly mission. Sent to the Scottish Highlands to spy on the mysterious Dreagan Industries, she discovers too late that she’s been set up—as human bait. She is an irresistible lure for a man who has not seen or touched a woman for centuries. He is a man with a destiny—and a desire—that could destroy them both…

It’s been twelve hundred years since Kellan has walked among humans—and there’s no denying the erotically charged attraction he feels for Denae. But as a Dragon King, he is sworn to protect his secrets. Yet the closer he gets to this smart, ravishing woman, the more her life is in danger. All it takes is one reckless kiss to unleash a flood of desire, the fury of dragons… and the fiercest enemy of all.

Review

So, you may not know this, but I’m one of those people that HATE to read spin off series of the series I’m reading, if I haven’t read the series that came before it. I hate seeing past references and thinking this sounds like I should know more about the situation they’re speaking of. And this book was a whole lot of that. At first I thought it was just the three novellas that are prequels to book one. I thought, hey maybe I should have read them and maybe that would make sense. That was until the warriors are mentioned and a whole heap of crap about people who aren’t the dragon kings. I was left feeling confused and muddled and couldn’t concentrate on the story. But it really was my fault.

You see, if I had have researched better, I would have seen this is a spinoff, of a spin off, of a series started in 2009. These worlds interweave, much like the books in the Dark-hunterverse interweave.

I think, personally, Goodreads would be much more helpful to me if it grouped series together like that series does under the hunterverse series or whatever it is, so I can see all together which book is where. I like series that weave together, but I rush a little when something interests me (dragons, although I was left feeling it lacked something in terms of dragon shifters) so I didn’t even know about the TWO SERIES BEFORE THIS ONE.

Last time I see something on Facebook and look it up I swear. My god what a catastrophe.

As for the book, it was quite good, but I couldn’t get over my complete lack of idea as to what was going on, and this was for literally over 70% of the book. I won’t be continuing the series but jumping back to the beginning to see if this whole universe interests me as you can tell from my note before. So I highly recommend not reading this series if you haven’t read the other two series because I honestly couldn’t enjoy it the way it was meant to be enjoyed!!! Some series you can do it, but I think because so much time had passed, 14 full length books, it had become such a large story that you cannot really start here without feeling out of place. So please, start at the beginning because the writing was great and the plot was great, it just reads wrong from where I started! Quite like starting a super long series right in the middle. Even though they’re standalone couples, it’s not a standalone story and you lose all the magics of a series plotline.

The series so far

Okay, so this is the first book in this series, but I won’t be even thinking about continuing this series right now. So what I want to show is the fact there are two series Dark Warriors (8 primary works, 1 novella) and Dark Sword (six primary works), and I’ll be reading the Dark Sword series as it comes first (Dangerous Highlander). So if you’d like to look out for my review) if I can find a cheap enough copy – either eBook or paperback.
